A workshop for digital photographers

Jun 28-Jul 4, 2009

This workshop is for advanced amateurs and experienced professionals who want to gain insight into how to make better photographs for editorial, stock sales or for personal satisfaction. You will photograph Maine at one of the most beautiful times of the year, while learning from one of the busiest and most seasoned travel photographers around. Bob covers all aspects of the shoot: how to solve technical problems, how to work with people, gain access, what equipment to bring, traveling and using digital gear, and how to use a small strobe. Digital workflow on the road will also be covered. You will learn how to research a story, select a destination, prepare a shooting list, and edit your pictures Students are encouraged to research the area before arrival. This is NOT an "intro to digital" course: you will need to know how to quickly edit, rename, and regroup photos with a browser. iPhoto and Picasa are not good for this...recommended browsers are Bridge, Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, Aperture.

The Human Touch

A workshop in photographic storytelling with Massimo Bassano

Jul 12-Jul 18, 2008

This workshop is taught by Bob's good friend (and fellow workshop instructor in Italy), Massimo Bassano. He is one of that country's finest photojournalists. His workshop will help you learn to tell a story from a subject’s point of view. Massimo, who has photographed on assignment for National Geographic Traveler, Gente Viaggi and a host of other Italian magazines, shares his secrets on how photographers become a part of the scene they are photographing and ‘touch’ the lives of their subjects, rather than just watching them through a lens. Massimo teaches students how to gain knowledge of locations, become familiar with the history and social context of the people, have an open mind and be fully open to where the story takes them. Most importantly, he encourages students to remember that subjects are people first, and not just camera fodder. This workshop is for experienced photographers with an interest in developing editorial project.
